Opened on the historic riverfront Bund in 2009, The Peninsula
Shanghai is in the heart of Shanghai, on the banks of the Huang-
pu River. The hospitality venue is the Hong Kong and Shanghai
hotels flagship in Mainland China. It has been honoured twice
by Travel + Leisure as the best hotel in Asia. The Hotel provides
guests with the ultimate experience in luxury, glamour, and state-
of-the-art facilities.
The Overall design of the Peninsula was conceived by New York-
based architect, David Beer and Paris-based interior designer,
Pierre-Yves Rochon, who honoured the influences and references
to the Art Deco movement while giving it a modern twist. Joseph
W.Y. Chong is the General Manager and Managing Director of the
Peninsula Shanghai complex. Featuring 235 guest rooms, the Pen-
insula Shanghai offers elegantly designed spaces that imbue luxury
and comfort. The interiors are characteristically Art Deco-inspired
as well as blending traditional Peninsula standards of comfort and
state-of-the-art technology with elements of Chinese heritage. In
order to create the most functional and luxurious accommoda-
tions, materials like exotic woods, imported stones, mahogany and
ebony, black lacquer, carved glass and accents of polished chrome

dining experiences using French classic techniques and fresh local
produce. In regards to interiors, the restaurant is a stunning and
dramatic combination of red Chinese lacquer, black walls, highly
polished wood, velvet upholstery as well as a melange of classic
and contemporary ceramics. Sir Elly provides outstanding views of
the Bund, Huangpu River and Pudong skyline.
