THE LODGE TORREY PINES
CALIFORNIA, USA
Opened in 2002 and perched upon the coastline of Southern Cali-
fornia with a stunning backdrop of rugged cliffs, the rolling Pacif-
ic and hypnotising sunsets, The Lodge at Torrey Pines is located
in La Jolla, one of the most sophisticated resort towns on the
Southern California coast. The hotel occupies six and one-half
acres by the 18th green of the famed Torrey Pines Golf Course.
The Torrey Pines State Reserve, a beloved California State Park
with beaches, golden cliffs and forests of Torrey pine and the rar-
est native pine in the U.S. - is only a short walk away.
With its post-and-beam construction, expansive spaces, respect
for the natural landscape and integration of indoor and outdoor,
the Lodge honours the California Craftsman style of architecture
of the early 1900s, which was a sprout of the patterns, which
emphasised clean lines, open spaces and rough-hewn materials.
Designed with the look and feel of a residence, The Lodge at Tor-
rey Pines reflects the California Craftsman style of architecture,
featuring a natural colour palette, graceful winglike rooflines,
shingle and sandstone-bluff exteriors, clinker-brick masonry, rich
Jatoba woodwork and natural stone surfaces.
The Lodge’s design complements the pristine beauty of the ar-
ea’s pines and sandstone formations, with beam details that
recall the windswept Torrey Pines themselves. The Lodge has
170 guest rooms, including 7 suites crafted with relaxation and
comfort. The guest rooms offer lovely views of the Torrey Pines
Golf Course or The Lodge’s garden courtyard. Custom-designed
furniture, fabrics and carpets featuring William Morris-style
designs give the rooms an historic and contemporary feel of el-
egance and warmth, later enhanced through details, such as a
granite-topped bar at each room’s entrance, a rich leather chaise
lounge by the bed, Tiffany-style lamps and oil-rubbed bronze fix-
tures. All rooms have the high-tech details demanded by today’s
business traveller. Furnishings throughout the suites embody the
Craftsmanship era, including stylish Stickley pieces of fine wood,
fabric and leather, and all rooms are outfitted with fireplaces and
high-tech details for the business traveller.
Both the Blacker Suite and the Thorsen Suite overlook the 18th
green of Torrey Pines Golf course and have sweeping views of
the Pacific coast. The amenities include everything that is ex-
pected from a premier luxury hotel, including advanced in-room
technology, signature cuisine, a full-service spa and fitness cen-
tre, a heated outdoor pool and whirlpool spa area with poolside
cabanas and chaise lounges. The Lodge’s signature restaurant, A.
R. Valentien, features fresh, innovative California cuisine served
in a breathtaking setting overlooking the golf course and Pacific
coastline. The Grill is also a popular and casual dining destination
for gathering with friends and family. We encourage you to stay
at The Lodge at Torrey Pines, the premier destination for San
Diego luxury hotels.
