Chanel played a quintessential role in Lagerfeld’s life, but the designer
wasn’t interested in a monogamous marriage with the French brand.
In fact, his longest love affair was in Rome. For 56 years Karl has
been the creative director for Fendi, creating iconic designs such as
the Baguette bag or the double F logo. The Kaiser’s influence was so
big that, in 2018, with his Fendi Logomania Collection, he helped Fila
get back on its feet by incorporating the Italian sports brands’ logo in
the designs. Despite the global commotion around the use of fur and
leather in the fashion industry, Karl always stayed true to the brand’s
vision and genesis, as Fendi was originally created as being a long-
lasting leather and fur brand.
February 19, 2019. The world will always reminisce this date with
sorrow as Karl Lagerfeld tested the biological notion of immortality.
But there’s a thing about immortality that completely transcends
the concept of living beings. Immortality per se is not something of
biological nature, at least for us, humans. It doesn’t really matter if
we live up to 20, 50, 100 years old. Immortality lies upon our legacy.
We can argue that Michelangelo, DaVinci, Botticelli, Bach and Julius
Caesar are in fact immortal. Although they have overstayed their
time amongst us, mere mortals, their story is told every day, with
the hopes of inspiring in achieving something beyond the world’s
expectations. We live in a generation that desperately craves for role
models, and Karl Otto Lagerfeld, ladies and gentlemen, lived on to
carry that burden like Sisyphus carried the boulder up the mountain.
