Gebrüder Thonet
Michael Thonets Söhne Franz, Michael jun.,
August, Josef und Jakob traten 1853 in das
Unternehmen Gebrüder Thonet in Wien ein.
Nach Michael Thonets Tod im Jahr 1871 leiteten
sie das Unternehmen gemeinsam. Sie entwi-
ckelten neue Maschinen und Arbeitsprozesse
und präsentierten auch zahlreiche Weiterent-
wicklungen und immer wieder neue Möbel-
entwürfe. Um die Jahrhundertwende des
19./20. Jahrhunderts wurde dann die dritte
Generation der Familie im Unternehmen aktiv:
Auch Karl, Julius, Theodor, Alfred, Victor und
Richard gestalteten im Verlauf ihrer jeweili-
gen Tätigkeit eine Vielzahl neuer Möbel und
Produkte.
Michael Thonet’s sons, Franz, Michael junior,
August, Josef and Jakob, joined the company
Gebrüder Thonet in Vienna in 1853. After Michael
Thonet’s death in 1871, they jointly managed
the company. They developed new machines
and work processes and presented numerous
additional developments and new furniture
designs. At around the turn of the century, the
third generation of Thonets then became active
in the company: Karl, Julius, Theodor, Alfred,
Victor and Richard also designed a wide range
of new furniture and products over the course
of their activities.
