DESIGNER
Hans
Hopfer
Painter, sculptor and designer Hans Hopfer
has been designing sofas since the 1970s,
with some of them becoming iconic pieces
in the Roche Bobois collections. Sensitive
to changing lifestyles and creative space
management, he designed seats with fully
modular, floor-level units. In 1971, he created
the Mah Jong sofa: a system of cushions
that champion complete freedom of form
and function. Avant-garde at the time of its
creation, it is an iconic piece today.
Upholstered in fabrics designed by Kenzo
Takada, Missoni and Jean Paul Gaultier,
the Mah Jong has long set the standard for
creative modularity.
