Romano Marcato was born in 1951,
in Cadoneghe, a few kilometres
from Padua. In 1970, he obtained
a high-school diploma from the
Istituto Tecnico Industriale of Padua,
specialising in mechanical engineering.
From 1970 to 1978, he was in
charge of design at a leading small
metal parts industry and designed
high-speed cutting dies for electric
terminals.
Thanks to his extensive knowledge
of precision engineering and complex
high-speed production systems,
Romano Marcato designed automatic
machines and systems for the
automotive and electronics industries.
In 1979, with his brother Dario, he
founded the company Lapalma, and
with his distinct personal fl air and
expertise in using metals, he designed
the fi rst products and oversaw the
technical processes.
For many years, Romano Marcato
has been choosing designers with
whom to collaborate and overseeing
the development and project
engineering of all products, even
the most futuristic, thanks to his
thirty years of experience and to his
technical knowledge that drives him to
customise individual machines.
He has also designed some of the
most popular objects in the Lapalma
collection, including the BRUNCH
and PANCO tables, the WIL stool, the
BRIO and YO small tables and the
ARIA chair.
Patrick Norguet approaches
objects and design from a graphical
perspective. Since childhood, he has
preferred sketchbooks to textbooks,
fi lling them up with sketches and
drawings. A “hands-on” approach of
industry and design studies in Paris
(ESDI) mark the unusual profi le of
this constructive rebel. His career
underwent a dramatic change in 2000
when Giulio Cappellini spotted his now
famous Rainbow Chair. He joined the
circle of designers that matter and
created his Parisian studio. Since that
time, he has been designing for major
producers and renowned brands. For
Patrick Norguet, design is fi rst and
foremost about happy encounters.
What he is most passionate about
is exchanging with manufacturers,
discovering their know-how; the
impulse of a creative intention refi ned
by technical constraints, economic
stakes and the expectations of a user
whom he hopes to discreetly but
durably win over. Drawing inspiration
from everything that surrounds him,
Patrick Norguet does not follow trends
but seeks to give shape to products
whose relevance and modernity would
withstand the test of time: “A well-
designed object, an object created
through generous collaboration is
timeless.” From consumer products
to luxury objects, Patrick Norguet
leaves an impression of authenticity
and elegance. Today, he is an essential
fi gure on the international design
scene.
Architect and designer he graduated
in ‘91 in Florence, where he resides.
In the 90’s he collaborated with
architect Claudio Nardi’s studio
designing for private residence,
public spaces and boutiques for
leading Italian designers like Dolce
& Gabbana, G. Ferrè and Valentino.
Since ’98 he is a freelance designer
of furniture, furnishing complements,
exhibition space and company
image communication. His client list
includes Lapalma, RF-Yamakawa
and True Design. For Clerprem, he
worked as art director overseeing the
design of seats and components for
trains. He was teaching assistant to
Prof. Robert Segoni in the course of
“Industrial Design” before becoming
a teacher himself lecturing for the
Bachelor of Fashion Design in
Florence until ‘09. The subjects he
taught included “Furniture design
Product” and “Theory and History
of Industrial Design.”He currently
teaches History of design at IED and
Furniture Design for the international
masters at Florence Institute of Design
International. He won the “Good
Design Award” of Chicago Athenaeum
2013.
