Egeo nasce nel 1960 per illuminare le banchine
portuali. Realizzato in alluminio fuso in terra,
con spessori importanti e bulloneria a vista,
veniva ancorato al suolo per resistere alle
ondate. Compatto, squadrato, essenziale, con
l’inconfondibile bocca luminosa inclinata a
45°, diventa subito un segno tecnico e formale
distintivo.
Nel tempo evolve nelle soluzioni costruttive
senza tradire il progetto originario: oggi è una
solida pressofusione di alluminio, con pratico
gancio a scatto al posto della bulloneria e
tecnologia LED ad alte prestazioni. Nonostante
le numerose imitazioni, Egeo resta un classico.
Dal patrimonio storico di Castaldi nasce anche
la versione indoor: una rilettura fedele che
custodisce carattere e proporzioni dell’originale
e ne trasporta l’identità architetturale negli
spazi interni, come un segno che cambia
scenario ma non perde la propria forza.
Egeo was created in 1960 to illuminate port
docks. Made of sand-cast aluminum, with
generous thicknesses and exposed bolts, it
was anchored to the ground to withstand the
force of the waves. Compact, squared and
essential, with its distinctive 45° light opening,
it immediately became a technical and formal
statement.
Over time, its construction evolved without
betraying the original design. Today it is a robust
die-cast aluminum body, featuring a practical
snap hook in place of visible bolts and high-
performance LED technology. Despite numerous
imitations, Egeo remains a true classic.
From Castaldi’s historical heritage comes the
indoor version as well: a faithful reinterpretation
that preserves the character and proportions of
the original, carrying its architectural identity
into interior spaces, a sign that changes setting
without losing its strength.
