The new Zanotta 2014 collection opens with the Undercover series by the Swedish designer Anna von Schewen, which introduces a new, unexpected and modern concept of tailor-made, for customizable sofas. The designer explains, “The inspiration for Undercover came through the study of the archetype of this type of upholstery. Creating an opening in the back reveals another layer which rounds off the project in an original way using different colours and textures. The possibility of seeing both the internal and the external, creates visual interest which, when coupled with the comfortable seating, is the cornerstone to the concept of design.” The research behind Undercover is part of the tradition of innovative and experimental design work carried out at Zanotta; the result is a surprising new, industrial design object of high textile interest. The series features a steel frame with exposed legs in polished aluminium alloy; it has elastic strip suspension and polyurethane upholstery. The seat cushions are graduated polyurethane with quilted, removable covers in fabric or leather. The back cushions and armrests are in 100% new goose feather, with removable covers in two tones of fabric or leather, which can also be interchanged. The covers can be unzipped and the two colours washed separately.
