“special is generally less useful than normal” is Jasper
Morrison’s guiding principle for a design that is not
extraordinary, but rather ‘supernormal’ in appearance
and – just like HAL – shows deference to the laws that
govern daily life. With HAL, Jasper Morrison has created
a new interpretation of the multifunctional shell chair,
as well as a broad chair range with a distinct, contem-
porary look. The shape of the seat shell provides plenty
of freedom of movement and permits a number of
seating positions – including sideways and astride.
HAL is available with a plastic seat shell, or as HAL Ply
made of plywood.
