S 533
Gezielte Beschränkung beim Einsatz der Materi-
alien, Eleganz in der Linienführung und Transpa-
renz in der Wirkung sind die charakteristischen
Eigenschaften des S 533. Seinen besonderen
Komfort verdankt er der Fähigkeit zum dauerelas-
tischen Federn. Dieser Effekt stellt sich ein, weil
Mies van der Rohe den vorderen Teil des Stahl-
rohrgestells als großen Bogen aus federhartem
Stahlrohr konzipierte. Waren die meisten Ent-
würfe aus den 1920er Jahren eher schlicht und
funktional, so spürt man bei diesem Sessel
deutlich die Handschrift des Architekten: sein
Entwurf kombiniert Funktionalität und Komfort
mit zeitloser Ästhetik. Der Stuhl wurde erstmals
1927 in der Weißenhof-Siedlung präsentiert.
Ohne Armlehnen, Gestell Stahlrohr verchromt,
Sitz und Rücken mit Korbgeflecht oder in Kern-
leder schwarz, naturbelassen und mit Schnürung
am Rücken, erhältlich. Mit „ThonetProtect®“-
Oberfläche für die Gestelle und UV-beständigem
Netzgewebe (Ausführung „Thonet All Seasons“),
auch variabel für den Innen- und Außenbereich
einsetzbar.
The targeted restriction in the use of materials,
elegance in the lines and transparency in the
effect are the characteristic properties of the
S 533. It owes its special comfort to constant
elastic flexing. This effect results from the fact
that Mies van der Rohe conceived the front part
of the tubular steel frame as a big bow made of
spring-hard tubular steel. While most of the de-
signs from the 1920s were rather simple and
functional, this chair clearly communicates the
signature of the architect: his design combines
functionality and comfort with timeless aesthetics.
The chair was first presented in the Weissenhof
Estate in 1927.
Without armrests. Frame chrome plated tubular
steel. Seat and backrest with wicker. Also avail-
able in black natural bend leather with lacing on
backrest. With “ThonetProtect®” surface for the
frames and UV resistant mesh – version “Thonet
All Seasons” – for variable use indoors and out-
doors.
