We developed a special technique that gives these vessels their
“seam” while they’re hot on the glassblower’s pipe. The glass is
forcefully — almost violently — squeezed while it’s hot. The first
samples we tried were large and crude. We returned to the technique
after some time reflecting on it. On the pipe, the completed Seam
looks unremarkable. What makes the piece is the careful decision
to cut it in just the right place so the polished mouth reveals the
sinuous ribbon of glass at the asymmetrical opening.
