Kensaku Oshiro
Kensaku Oshiro was born in Okinawa,
Japan, in 1977. Since the late 1990s, he has
spent time in Italy, fi rst in Milan for his stu-
dies at the Milan Polytechnic School of
Design, then for collaborations with diff e-
rent studios, including the Lissoni Associati
studio from 2004 to 2012. In those ye-
ars, he moved to London to work in the
BarberOsgerby studio. He opened his own
studio in Milan in 2015. Oshiro’s educatio-
nal path marks his creative language, which
combines the search for the essence of the
shape with the culture of materials, and a
sensibility for industrial production with the
ability to interpret made-to-order projects.
Since 2006, Oshiro has participated in nu-
merous exhibitions and competitions and
has earned prestigious international awards.
True Heritage
Traditional plissage and capitonnée work-
manship are interpreted in a minimal and
contemporary way in a series of footrests,
stools and ottomans. They are all-purpose
furnishings, with a strong identity that
evokes suggestions of women’s fashion
tailoring. The circular stool is paradigmatic,
characterised by supple curves inspired by
a woman’s silhouette that, as with a dress,
are tightened by the thin leather belt to
emphasise the waist. The sinuous shape is
highlighted by the stitching and soft folds
of the leather or fabric upholstery. The
details of the upholstery are subtle and
refined. In the leather version, the four folds
start from the central button of the seat
and descend along the profile of the pouf;
in the fabric variant the folds are replaced
by stitching. Suitable for any room in the
house, in private and contract spaces, Leplì
seats are also available in a storage version
and for outdoors.
