Stadttheater
The oldest baroque theatre in Switzerland still
in activity. The Stadttheatre in Solothurn dates
back to the 17th century. It was first used for the
performances of the Jesuits' school, and from
the middle of the 19th century until today there
has been a regular and professional production
of comedies and classic plays, opera and ballet.
In 2013-14 it underwent a massive renovation
project designed by Zurich architects Phalt
Architekten AG mainly for safety and practical
reasons. The project also became the occasion
to expand the theatre by including the “Haus
Krieg” building creating a more spacious
entrance and a bar area for the audience.
