profoundly renewed its identity and has con-
siderably expanded the range of its product
off ering. A compendium of padded leather
upholstery comes to life in an entire collec-
tion of furnishings and furnishing accessories
that allow to design environments with Pol-
trona Frau’s iconic atmosphere and style.
Multiple types of leather with varied sensory
characteristics, up to the extremes of
structured leather and very soft nubuck, are
accompanied by materials such as fabrics,
marble and natural stones, glass, woods
and metals, treated with paints and fi nishes
in diff erent chromatic shades. It therefore
became necessary to have a chromatic
alphabet that would allow the coordination
of the choice of Pelle Frau® leather and
the juxtaposition with other materials.
ColorSphere® was created in 2020 in
consultation with internationally renowned
chromatologist and textile designer Giulio
Ridolfo: an innovative system that allows
to design through colour, using it both for
defi ning the single elements as for the global
eff ect on the diff erent spaces. It is a tool
conceived for the architectural and interior
design industries, to help build a harmonious
and lasting relationship between environ-
ments and furnishings.
ColorSphere® is not a simple colour
chart, but a tool of simplifi cation. It consists
of 7 main families, ordered according to a
descending chromatic logic of tones and
undertones: Into the Black (greys and blacks),
Milky Way (whites), Foundation (pale pink
and beige), Tierras (browns), Red Memories
(reds), Winter Garden (blues and greens), or
inspired by metropolitan and international
colours (Back in Town). In turn, these sets
each include 14 subgroups, for a total of 73
colours that correspond to the shades of
Pelle Frau® ColorSphere® SC leather, the
type of Pelle Frau® leather with the richest
and most versatile colour scheme.
The 26 historical shades from the Pol-
trona Frau catalogue have been joined by 47
new colours. The choice ranges from strong
and self-pigmented colours to sophisticated
chromatic scales of light or, by contrast, very
vivid inter-tones. The colour groups can be
approached based on naturalness and radi-
ance—that is, the brightness and intensity of
the colour—or mixed to create combinations
that are always new and harmonious.
