sites”. Marc Chagall’s phrase introduces a
new concept of colour; as a choice reached
through a perceptive and emotional journey.
In 2020, Poltrona Frau created Color-
Sphere®, a chromatic map and design tool
that allows the customer to orient itself and
be inspired by the 73 colours available today,
which interact with the other 80 colours of
Pelle Frau® leather and with the vast range
of furnishing fabrics, which can all be com-
bined and mixed with this system. It is much
more than a chromatic library. Going beyond
the
more
traditional
technical-scientifi c
criterion of colour codes, it is a journey through
similar shades, to be approached and chosen
freely, giving in to the immediate emotional
sensations that colour can stimulate.
Since its founding in 1912, Poltrona Frau
has combined natural leather tones with
colours such as red, moss green and even
ultramarine blue. Over the years, it has been
able to enrich the chromatic range by pushing
innovation forward in both the tanning and
the dyeing processes of the leather without
distorting its intrinsic characteristics. The
company has done the same in the interior
design of residences, public spaces and even
the marine sector with the introduction of
unprecedented shades. For Poltrona Frau,
research in colour has never been driven
by fashion or the latest trend, but rather by
tracing the explorations of international
artistic and architectural movements in the
renewal of contemporary interiors in an
inspired union between experimentation
and traditional elegance. Revisiting the
colours off ered by Poltrona Frau throughout
its decades of history you can rediscover the
evolution of Italian style and taste.
For Poltrona Frau, colour is part of a
well-thought-out and coherent corporate
logic. In 1986, chromatologist Paolo Minoli
was recruited to create the Frau® Colour
System, a system of 73 colours that codifi ed
the material and chromatic universe of
Poltrona Frau with precision and scientifi c
accuracy. Over time, the shades have multi-
plied, from 73 up to 96, becoming the most
complete range in existence.
