In reinterpreting the popular and iconic
Archibald armchair, Jean-Marie Massaud
envisaged a kind of soft, overstuffed sack that
creates a rich movement of folds as it fits over
and drapes down onto a thin metal frame.
Archibald Gran Comfort is wider and simpler,
made up of only three distinct pieces: the
stainless steel frame with elastic belt springs,
goose down quilt padding for maximum
comfort, and upholstery in Pelle Frau® Safari
Elephant Leather, a material with extraordi-
nary softness and thickness (5 mm), three
times more than classic leather, for an envelo-
ping but at the same time supportive
sensation. No synthetic materials or glues or
staples are added, Archibald Gran Comfort is
pure mastery of artistic craftsmanship.
The extra-large armchair is a sort of
manifesto. The construction technology of
the 2009 version has evolved to more
directly and consciously adhere to a leaner
manufacturing concept and to an increased
product durability, both founding elements
of sustainability. The components of Archi-
bald Gran Comfort are all removable and
durable, with parts that can be repaired in
the rare event this might become necessary.
The result is a welcoming and sophisticated
contrast of volumes and materials that has
become a model of contemporary elegance.
