A keen focus on materials and production
processes is a fundamental feature
of Federica Biasi’s work. The young
designer’s particular style traits in
her designs have found fertile terrain
in Pianca. Despite having developed
the technology for mass production,
Pianca still retains a close bond with
craftsmanship, choosing high end finishes
and using techniques that are hard to
repeat. With the iconic design of the Naan
armchair which has a compact volume
resting on a wooden base, Biasi has
deftly interpreted the Veneto company’s
characteristic timeless style. Precisely
detailed and simple, this armchair is the
perfect partner for the other Pianca
furniture collections because, just like the
traditional naan bread that accompanies
all the main dishes in Asian cuisine,
it is a complementary chair that asserts
its presence discreetly, also making an
excellent accent piece.

10 — 11
— What makes you happy as a designer?
When one of my objects is produced
exactly as I designed it.
— What is your biggest fear as a designer?
I get really afraid if an object is distorted
from the initial idea and turns into
something that really doesn’t belong to me.
— What three essential qualities must a
good object possess?
It has to be functional and comfortable,
have timeless style and personality,
without escaping into the superfluous.
— Is there a designer who you admire?
I admire the work that everyone manages
to do because I know how difficult it is.
If I think about the past, I really admire the
style of Charlotte Perriand and that period
of history.
— If you hadn’t become a designer,
what would you have done in life?
I’d have been a naturopath. The books
on my bedside table are all about
medicinal plants.
