Recuperare materiali naturali rinnovabili,
ritrovare tecniche di coltivazione e
produzione tradizionali, studiarne nuovi
impieghi nella progettazione, nella
fabbricazione e nell’uso di arredi e
complementi: ecco le strade che abbiamo
individuato quando Eres ha cominciato
a prendere forma, cioè quando abbiamo
iniziato a ripensare i nostri prodotti su
basi più eque e consapevoli.
Oltre ad approfondire la ricerca sulla
riciclabilità dei materiali polimerici
che utilizziamo per le nostre collezioni,
abbiamo voluto indagare un campo per noi
completamente nuovo.
Mettere a punto questa nuova
collezione ha significato svolgere un
paziente lavoro di ricerca in diverse aree
del mondo per attingere a conoscenze
e colture tradizionali scomparse nel
mondo occidentale con lo sviluppo
industriale, individuarne i punti di forza,
scoprire la potenzialità delle fibre
ottenute per interpretarle e trasformarle
in chiave moderna. L’obiettivo è duplice:
minimizzare l’impatto ambientale delle
produzioni, dando un piccolo contributo
a contenere il riscaldamento globale;
promuovere la diversità culturale,
stimolando un approccio nuovo con
gli oggetti domestici.
Returning to the use of renewable natural
materials, rediscovering forgotten
traditional techniques of cultivation and
production, developing new uses for those
materials in the design, production, and
use of furnishings and accessories: these
are the paths we identified when Eres
began to take shape, that is, when we
started to rethink our products on a more
equitable and conscientious foundation.
Aside from delving deeper into our
research concerning the recyclability
of the polymeric materials that we use
in our collections, we’ve also chosen to
investigate a field that is a completely
new one for us.
Developing this new collection has
meant undertaking a patient process
of research in various areas around the
world, in order to draw on traditional
crops and bodies of knowledge as well
as farming practices, all long vanished in
the Western world in the aftermath of the
wave of industrial development. We have
then proceeded to identify the strategic
advantages, discovering the true potential
of the fibers produced in order to interpret
and resolve them in modern terms. There
is a two-fold objective: to minimize the
environmental impact of production
and manufacturing, offering one small
contribution in the fight to reduce global
warming; to encourage and promote
cultural diversity, thereby stimulating
a new approach to household objects.
