Sotto la superficie del mare, molto lontano dalla terra ferma, ci sono
forme di vita antiche e città perdute, un mondo di giganti e predatori. Le
acque internazionali ospitano tantissime creature e hanno fondali che
compongono catene montuose molto più alte dei monti che formano
la terra. Proteggere queste meraviglie naturali è la cosa più giusta da
fare. Ma non è solo un problema etico: si tratta di sopravvivenza perché
il nostro destino è legato a quello degli oceani. Per contrastare gli effetti
del cambiamento climatico serve tutto il nostro impegno e quello delle
generazioni che verranno. L’educazione ambientale deve partire quanto
prima, dall’infanzia e già nelle nostre case. L’esempio è sempre la strada
maestra. Se i bambini vedono gli adulti impegnati a rispettare l’ambiente
è molto probabile che facciano la stessa cosa. Poi c’è il gioco, che significa
avvicinarsi ai temi della sostenibilità con il massimo della leggerezza.
È importante coinvolgere i bambini che, una volta ben stimolati, si
mostreranno subito molto sensibili al loro futuro e al mondo che vogliono.
Beneath the surface of the sea, far from land, there are ancient life
forms and lost cities, a world of giants and predators. The international
waters are home to many creatures and have bottoms that make up
mountain ranges much higher than the mountains that form the earth.
Protecting these natural wonders is the right thing to do. But it is not
only an ethical issue: it is about survival because our fate is linked to
that of the oceans. Countering the effects of climate change requires all
our efforts and those of generations to come. Environmental education
must start as early as possible, from childhood and in our homes. Setting
an example is always the way forward. If children see adults committed
to respecting the environment, they are very likely to do the same.
Then there is play, which means approaching sustainability issues with
the utmost lightness. It is important to involve children who, once well
stimulated, will immediately show themselves to be very sensitive to
their future and the world they want.
