Kogel’s design is an ode to its mechanism. The ball joint idea was inspired by
vivid memories of a distant anecdote, a trip to the ‘Maeslantkering’ (Dutch for
Maeslant barrier), a giant storm surge barrier. Its mechanism, so impressive and
complex, essentially works on the principle of a ball joint. Kogel brings beauty to
the equation and becomes a logical balance between function and form.
