What was paramount to Verner Panton was to design glare-
free lamps, i.e. lamps where it was not possible to view the
bulb, as well as the colour of the light emitted, Marianne
Panton says.
According to her, Verner Panton immensely enjoyed working
with the Louis Poulsen team, where he also made some
very good friends. He saw the collaboration as a great
privilege, she says. It was also important for him to be able
to explain his ideas in his mother tongue. Living and working
in Switzerland in the 1960s, when Verner Panton’s world
fame took off, hardly anyone knew that he was Danish.
The Panthella remains one of Verner Panton’s most revered
light designs and today, apart from again being available
in his own favourite shade of high lustre chrome, the icon
has also been introduced in a brass metallised version. In
2022, another classic Panthella hue is presented, when the
translucent grey opal finish that Panton introduced to the
world in 1971 will once more become available in stores.
