Innovation through illumination
Today, innovative, human-centred work-
place design is essential to the success
of the people that drive an organisation
forward – and, ultimately, the success
of the organisation as a whole. With the
work-life divide becoming increasingly
blurred and our workplaces serving as
far more than just places to clock in
and out, we need holistically designed
environments that meet the entire range
of human needs. Comfort. Security.
Connection. Inspiration. Solitude. Fulfil-
ment. Productivity. Health and wellness.
This means that every space and
touchpoint in an office must be thought
through, from its efficiency and environ-
mental impact to its ability to support our
essential, daily functions. Lobbies and
reception areas must welcome, inform
and guide while sending a message
about the identity of a place. Confer-
ence rooms fulfil their purpose when
they create an environment of openness
and collaboration. Offices must offer
privacy, support creativity and produc-
tivity, and instil sense of being part of
something bigger.
Decorative lighting is essential to
create ambience and a pleasant work
environment. And it’s not just about
aesthetics and ambience. It’s about
science. We spend more time indoors
than we ever have, and it is important
that we feel comfortable. The ultimate
goal of a workplace is, after all, to bring
out people’s best selves – and that can
only happen in an environment that
considers our deepest human needs
and motivations.
