Project study:
Malchiostro Chapel,
Cathedral of Saint Peter the Apostle
the grazing light from the Archicove
linear bars helps to ‘justify’. Indirect
lighting of the apse is provided by
linear bars inserted in the cornices.
The lighting design also included
the vestibule. The cross vaults,
illuminated by linear bars, can be
seen from the side entrance of the
cathedral and entice visitors towards
this breath-taking work of art. Each
oil painting displayed on either
side of the vestibule is illuminated
with a dedicated Navata_Optus
projector which is placed on the
cornice opposite and never in front
of the work but rather to the side.
The projectors are positioned in
this way to avoid irritating visitors
(who normally stand in front of the
artworks) with an unsightly reflection
from the illuminated oil paintings.
