THE TERRITORY: HISTORY AND TRADITIONS
Must-taste
A delicious curiosity: the
“Love Knot” The famous
tortellini di Valeggio: strictly
home-made, very thin
dough, meat filling, they are
perfect with melted butter
and sage. They are linked to
an old legend that tells a
story of love, founded in the
fourteenth century, between
the valiant Malchus, captain
of the armies of Gian
Galeazzo Visconti and
Silvia, a beautiful nymph
appeared from the river
Mincio. The two lovers
disappeared into the river
and left on the bank a
golden silk handkerchief tied
symbolically to remember
their eternal love. Since
then, during feast days, the
women and girls of Valeggio
remember the story of the
two lovers pulling a thin
paste like silk, cutted and
knotted it as the
handkerchief of gold and
enriched with a delicate
filling. This is the birth of the
legendary "Tortellino
Valeggio."
