Bio is one of the new frontiers of Kartell's research
and has led to the creation of the first product made
with a completely revolutionary and natural material.
This material is obtained from agricultural production
waste that does not compete with food for humans and
animals. Thanks to an organic process and natural
synthesis, the waste materials generate a biomass that
is similar to plastic. This biomass becomes a material
of the highest quality, and Kartell was the first to
experiment with this material in injection and moulding
like other plastics.
The first Bio object in the Kartell catalogue is the
modular storage unit, designed in 1967 by Anna
Castelli Ferrieri.
Componibile, 1967, Anna Castelli Ferrieri, Bio version
Recycled, it is a 100% recycled thermoplastic
technopolymer obtained from pure waste material that
has been set aside and is not contaminated by other
materials. The choice is dictated by the possibility,
made available only now by technology, to use waste
material that guarantees the aesthetic quality and
structural requirements of the product, reducing the
emissions necessary for its production.
With this material, Kartell intends to go a step further
in its commitment to environmental sustainability,
using recycled material while eliminating waste from
the environment and turning it back into raw material,
activating a virtuous process of circular economy.
Kartell’s commitment to implementing and continuing
to improve the environmental management system
is guaranteed by compliance with international
certification protocols. With regard to the protection
of health, it boasts GREENGUARD certification on all
its products, ensuring a low level of emissions thereby
safeguarding indoor air quality.
All Kartell products that have received GREENGUARD
certification are featured on the UL SPOT website.
