Creativity and Humanity by Arup
Arup - with the Creative Light project - is keen to expand
awareness of climate change, encourage social interaction
and cohesion in communities and communicate the
value of nature to urban communities precisely through
the use of light, thereby seeking to inspire individuals
to make personal commitments to drive change for the
environment and a sustainable future. Arup uses light
as an educational aspect to invite the public at large to
think about the consequences of certain activities for
our environment by progressively expanding the areas of
reference: from the suburb to the city, the country and
hence the world. The team chose four topics interpreted
as natural aspects which in turn were adopted as the
basis for the gobo projects. Air represents atmospheric
pollution, bees symbolize the loss of biodiversity, water as
an increasingly scarce resource and, lastly, carbon - the
combustion of which generates the energy needed for
human activities but, at the same time, is harmful for the
environment.
