Since its founding, the family company
Gira has grown from a regional
manufacturer of sockets and switches to
one of the leading international providers
of intelligent system solutions for
electronic and networked digital building
management.
Right from the start, Gira with its many
innovations has been one of the most
influential players in the development of
the networked “smart home” and in the
digitalisation of buildings.
Gira, based in Radevormwald, has more
than 1,200 enployees who develop and
manufacture products and solutions
for building technology: These include
switches and socket outlets, and in
particular intelligent systems for multi-
functional building control using cables
or wireless technology, innovative door
communication solutions, call systems,
and much more.
At its Lüdenscheid location, Gira‘s
subsidiary Insta Elektro GmbH develops
products and solutions for building
system technology and modern
architectural lighting. The new
“Lightment” business segment
encompasses the fields of LED systems,
design- and function-oriented LED lights,
as well as complete lighting solutions
and control systems for sophisticated
architecture both indoors and outdoors.
As the majority shareholder of ISE GmbH
in Oldenburg, Gira also has specific
expertise in the area of software and
embedded hardware development.
This technology is the prerequisite for
equipping buildings “intelligently”.
Moreover, through the Gira design
platforms, new technologies are merged
with the electrical installation to become
part of the Gira switch systems.
Quality “Made in Germany” is valued
highly at Gira, in all areas of activity.
This is safeguarded by continuously
maintaining the quality management
system, which is compliant with ISO
9001 and verified by external
independent certification audits.
Gira’s history began 111 years ago:
In 1905, Gustav and Richard Giersiepen founded a two-man
company for manufacturing their patented switch design.
Today the name Gira represents systematic and well-designed
modern building technology which makes home living more
convenient, more secure and more energy-efficient. For this
purpose, Gira offers intelligent functions and user-friendly
solutions for the easy and convenient control of lighting,
heating, cooling and blinds, as well as door communication,
multimedia, and security systems.

111 Jahre Gira
Family-run since 1905
From the outset, the actions of the
entrepreneurial Giersiepen family, which
runs Gira in its fourth generation, have
been following a vision that puts the
focus on their own responsibility for
shaping the future. For 111 years, the
family has placed great emphasis on
commitment, accountability, mutual
respect, partnership, constant customer
orientation and forward-looking
products.
Innovation and quality
“Made in Germany”
Since 1905, Gira products and solutions
have stood for German engineering skills,
reliable “Made in Germany” quality,
strict customer orientation, sustainable
production and operation, as well as
perfection of form and function. But
above all they stand for making people‘s
lives a little easier, more convenient and
safer.
Acting sustainably
For Gira, shaping the future means
acting responsibly today – for the
environment, for people and for the
economy. Treating each other fairly,
conserving resources and striving for
economic efficiency are a permanent
duty to us at Gira, and we want to
inspire others to think the same.
