FORMITALIA Group
The history of Formitalia, led by brothers
David and Gianni Overi, is a story of
successful objects and winning intuitions
that have become a true total living system
completely MADE IN ITALY that goes as far
as furnishing prestigious villas in the most
exclusive locations and creating hotels
and residential projects all over the world.
In recent years, the commercial growth of
FORMITALIA Group and its licensed brands,
Tonino Lamborghini and Aston Martin, has
followed a distribution strategy through a
network of boutiques and shop-in-shops
located in luxury centres in over 50 countries
worldwide. Formitalia Luxury Group is
therefore today an important international
group comprising prestigious brands and
collections based on the idea of a total look
for the most glamorous and coolest home,
office, contract and personal accessories.
The
FORMITALIA
Group
of
furniture
companies was founded by Graziano Overi
in 1968, while the first FORMITALIA Luxury
Collection was created in 1991, namely
the Boutique Collection designed by Paolo
Gucci, characterised by prints and details
recalling the world of horses, with prints of
Arabian horse profiles made of pure silk
from Como, and by metal and leather work
carried out by Florentine craftsmen. This
success has been achieved thanks to the in-
depth knowledge of leathers, the selection
of the finest tans that are worked with
crocodile and ostrich prints to emphasise the
mood that has given the Formitalia brand its
key imprint. All production was carried out
mainly in Tuscany, in the cities of Florence,
Prato, Pistoia and Pisa. Formitalia focuses
on leather and every possible use of it: from
the living area to large and sophisticated
bedrooms, the Formitalia style makes the
home unique, precious, cosmopolitan,
elegant, warm and welcoming.
In recent years, charm and luxury have been
increasingly oriented towards minimalist and
contemporary design. The richness of forms
and the classic soul give way to a decidedly
modern style, where essentiality is enhanced
by
refined
materials
and
exceptional
finishes, distinguished by craftsmanship
proudly made in Italy. Satin-finished metals,
natural stones, refined leathers and fabrics
emerge from a context in which the design
is characterised by extremely clean lines
that emphasise, now more than ever, the
impeccable craftsmanship that has always
distinguished Formitalia’s collections in Italy
and around the world.
The choice ranges from metals with a light
gold finish with a satin or polished effect, to
marbles such as Calacatta Gold and Afyon,
to natural stones such as white onyx; to
woods with the essence of Canaletto walnut
with a very natural effect or black ash with
an open pore. All this combined with very
soft Nappa leather treated with natural
finishes, nubuck leather dyed with natural
colours, exclusive fabrics, available in over
200 colours and patterns.
MIRABILI Arte d’Abitare
“A certain idea of so called modern
furnishing”, writes Ettore Sottsass that is
“acceptable as metaphor of a new possible
existence”. This is the starting point of
“Mirabili”, a route started in the 80s by
Sergio Cammilli, “seismograph of design” in
Alessandro Mendini’s opinion, that brought
him to search, as Paolo Portoghesi says, the
“relationship of creative synergy that bound
together costumers and artists in the great
époques of the history of culture”. A route
trough contemporary art, architecture and
interior decoration that has continued since
1999 with David and Gianni Overi in order
to bring home some objects that are a point
of contact “between the art absolute and
everyday life in pieces-of-furniture”.
The message that MIRABILI intends to
portray involves well-known artists and
designers, selected for their particular gifts
HISTORY OF THE BRANDS
and their poetic world, lending an innovative
and sensitive contribution to the cultural
image of the habitat as “Art of Living”. It is a
collection which wants to communicate with
art, by means of visions and emotions: a
quality that justifies its meaningful presence
in museums, art galleries and in collections
of qualified collectors.
The MIRABILI collection was presented for
the first time in Prato in 1986, in the historical
Palazzo Datini, under the patronage of the
Department of Culture of the City of Prato,
the Province of Florence and the Region of
Tuscany. Subsequently, MIRABILI exhibited,
by invitation, at the Centre George
Pompidou in Paris, at the Biennale d’Arte
in Sidney, at “Abitare il Tempo” (Verona), at
the Groninger Museum, at the Accademia
Italiana in London, at “das Goldenezeitung”
