avanti allo sfondo color cobalto della Biblioteca Blu, appare
un’installazione significativa: un divano Pack – bianco,
galleggiante su una banchisa di tessuto – e, accanto, una
poltrona Vermelha, un groviglio rosso fuoco di 500 metri di corda
intrecciata a mano. È l’immagine che accoglie il visitatore del Museo del
Presente Giovanni Falcone e Paolo Borsellino, inaugurato a Palazzo Jung,
in via Lincoln 71 a Palermo, il 23 maggio 2024, anniversario della strage
di Capaci. Inserito nel parco storico che insiste sull’area di piazza Magione,
nel quartiere natale di Giovanni Falcone e Paolo Borsellino, e sulla storica
via Lincoln, dove sorge l’Orto Botanico, Palazzo Jung è stato oggetto di un
progetto integrato sul parco e sul pianterreno, concessi alla Fondazione
Falcone, nata per volontà di Maria Falcone sua Presidente, per il ripristino
e conversione in spazio culturale. Su

De Lisi, il giardino ristrutturato
- oggi Giardino della Memoria –,
lo spazio biblioteca, l’area dell’ex
casa del custode diventata Casa dei
Bambini, il cortile e la Galleria del
presente – cuore del sistema museale
– celebrano oggi il valore della fiducia
riflettendo sul presente, seguendo
la direttrice simbolica evocativa del
saper fare, del saper pensare e del
saper sentire: mani, mente, cuore.
Tutto è dedicato al lavoro, alla
bellezza, all’impegno, alla rinascita
civile di una città. Con attività ludiche
e laboratori didattici, la possibilità di
organizzare meeting, presentazioni,
conferenze
e
appuntamenti
di
approfondimento, il progetto è parte
attiva di un programma che coinvolge
scuole, famiglie e ricercatori. Ogni
ambiente mette in relazione cultura
della legalità e arte contemporanea,
con interventi di street art, scultura,
installazione e performance che, nel
corso degli anni, hanno coinvolto
artisti italiani e internazionali. La
presenza dell’eccellenza industriale italiana ribadisce platealmente che
la ricerca della bellezza e della qualità porta con sé impegno, cultura,
passione, indipendenza, pertanto valori opposti al ricatto mafioso.
Vincenzo Di Fresco, Presidente del Museo e il curatore Alessandro De
Lisi hanno scelto gli arredi Edra non solo per la loro eccellenza formale,
ma per il valore simbolico: Pack è un’isola accogliente sulla quale
rifugiarsi per pensare, mentre Vermelha evoca la complessità delle storie
intrecciate. La filosofia dell’azienda toscana incontra così la missione del
museo: proteggere la memoria per generare futuro, unendo formazione,
arte e natura, in un luogo in cui la meraviglia non è evasione ma memoria
viva. Un messaggio di apertura: la bellezza, se condivisa, è strumento
di cittadinanza, e un invito a sedersi – letteralmente – dalla paarte della
legalità.

n installation, full of meaning, appears against the cobalt blue
background of Biblioteca Blue, the Blue Library: a white Pack sofa,
floating on its fabric ice floe and, beside it, a Vermelha armchair,
a fire-red tangle of 500 metres of hand-woven rope. This is the image
greeting visitors to the Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino Museum of
the Present, inaugurated in Palazzo Jung, in via Lincoln 71 in Palermo, on
23 May 2024, anniversary of the Capaci massacre. Palazzo Jung sits in a
historical garden on the storied Via Lincoln, home to Palermo’s Botanical
Gardens, in the Piazza Magione neighbourhood where Giovanni Falcone and
Paolo Borsellino were born, and has been the subject of a project integrally
restoring both the garden and the ground floor, which were given to the
Falcone Foundation established by the will of its President Maria Falcone,
for the restoration and conversion
into a cultural space. On a project and
direction of Alessandro De Lisi, the
renovated garden, now the Garden of
Memory, and the Gallery of the Present
which is the heart of the museum
system, together with library spaces,
the former custodian’s house, now the
Children’s House, and the courtyard,
celebrate the value of trust through
reflection on the present, following the
symbolic and evocative thread of know-
how: knowing how to do, knowing
how to think, and knowing how to feel
– hands, mind and heart. Everything is
dedicated to beauty, commitment and
work, to the civic rebirth of a city. The
project is an active part of a program
that involves schools, families and
researchers in educational workshops,
recreational activities, opportunities
for organising meetings, presentations,
conferences, and moments of deeper
understanding. Each space creates a
relation between the culture of legality
and contemporary art, with works that
include performance art, installations,
sculpture and street art and that, over the
years, have featured both Italian and international artists. The presence of
Italian industrial excellences is a conspicuous confirmation that researching
beauty and quality brings commitment, culture, passion and independence,
all values opposed to mafia blackmail. Vincenzo Di Fresco, President of the
Museum, and the curator Alessandro De Lisi chose Edra furnishings not
simply for their formal excellence, but for their symbolic value: Pack, the
welcoming island on which we can take refuge and reflect, and the Vermelha
armchair, evoking the complexities of our interwoven histories. Thus the
philosophy of Tuscan company Edra meets with the museum’s mission:
protecting memory to generate future, uniting education, art, and nature
in a place where wonder is not escapism but living memory. It is a message
of openness: when we share beauty it is an instrument of citizenship, an
invitation to take a seat – literally – on the side of legality.
