I am the same age as Edra. I grew up with Edra.
Ever since I was a child, I have had the pleasure of living it. After
school, I wanted to spend the afternoon at the company where
everything was extraordinary to me: the offices and factory, which
were small at the time. People working as if in a creche, huge boxes
to hide in, upholsterers cutting upholstery fabrics, tailors sewing,
steam clouds coming out from flat irons, the first computers with
green lettering, dot matrix printers that made the sound of summer
chatter, colour photocopiers. It was all new and enchanting to me.
I remember the evenings spent at home with the artists, who were
imagining the products. They kept talking about ideas for hours, whole
nights and days. And then, those ideas took shape in the prototype
room. Among new discussions, refinements, and hugs. And, in the
end... the applause. Then on to Milan for the presentation at the
Salone del Mobile. The stand, with lots of lights, lots of people. Sofas
and armchairs that I had seen come into being. Now they were there.
I was proud because I knew their stories. I have had and still have
the privilege to know and work with people who have come up with
extraordinary products. Today, together with Edra collaborators, I can
tell you and make you appreciate the features as well as the quality of
Edra, which is also due to the skill of its craftsmen, who are real artists.
And the great respect for them and for their work.
With thorough and pure research into comfort and beauty, Edra
is still applying those principles of the highest, superlative quality
that animated that extraordinary world where I wanted to spend my
afternoons after school.

È un grande piacere poter dare testimonianza di un percorso di vita,
non solo professionale. Un percorso ricco di impegno, soddisfazione,
passione e valore. È da quest’ultima parola, valore, che voglio
iniziare con la mia riflessione. Prima del 2011, la mia vita era fatta
prevalentemente di numeri: il valore aveva un significato strettamente
legato a quelli. Perché i miei studi mi avevano portato a lavorare in
ambito bancario. Poi, l’incontro con la famiglia Mazzei – prima con
Niccolò ed Edoardo, dopo con Valerio, Vera e Monica – mi ha fatto
scoprire quanto possano essere numerosi i significati della parola
valore. Valore dell’educazione. Valore del rispetto. Anche la mia
famiglia mi aveva educato con tali sani e giusti principi. Ma è stato
trovarli in un ambito professionale che mi ha fatto capire quanto e come
possano essere declinati anche sul lavoro, e non solo in un universo
protetto e intimo come quello familiare. Ma in fondo, anche Edra è
una famiglia. In Edra l’alta qualità di ogni gesto porta alla creazione
di modelli unici, artigianali, di grande innovazione e comfort. Ecco
un’altra lettura del valore, offrire prodotti del più alto livello è un
impegno che Edra ha sempre mantenuto. Questo è probabilmente
l’insegnamento più importante che ho tratto dalla famiglia Mazzei:
costruire quanto di migliore si riesca a fare.

It is a great pleasure to be able to speak about a life path, not just
a professional one. A path that is full of commitment, satisfaction,
passion and value. I want to start my reflection right from the last
word: value. Up to 2011, my life was mainly made up of numbers and
value was closely linked to them. That is because my studies led me
to work in banking. Then, meeting the Mazzei family - first Niccolò
and Edoardo, then Valerio, Vera and Monica - made me realize that
the word value has several implications. The value of education. The
value of respect. Even my family had raised me with such sound and fair
principles. But finding them in a professional setting made me realise
to what extent and how they can also be applied at work, and not just in
a protected and intimate universe such as that of the family.
And Edra, after all, is also a family. In Edra, the high quality of each
gesture leads to the creation of unique, handcrafted models that are
highly innovative and comfortable. This is another interpretation of
value: offering products of the highest standard is a commitment that
Edra has always fulfilled.
This is probably the most important lesson I have learnt from the
Mazzei family: manufacture the best you can.

Sono coetaneo di Edra. Sono cresciuto insieme a Edra.
Fin da bambino ho avuto il piacere di poterla vivere. Dopo la scuola,
volevo trascorrere i pomeriggi in azienda dove tutto per me era
straordinario: gli uffici e la fabbrica, che allora era piccola.
Persone che lavoravano come in un presepe, scatole enormi per
nascondermi, tappezzieri che tagliavano i tessuti dei rivestimenti, sarti
che cucivano, ferri da stiro da cui uscivano delle nuvole di vapore, i
primi computer con le scritte verdi, le stampanti ad aghi, che facevano
il rumore del cicaleccio estivo, le fotocopiatrici a colori.
Tutto nuovo ed incantevole, per me. Ricordo le serate passate a casa
con gli autori, che stavano immaginando i prodotti. Parlavano di idee
per ore, per nottate intere, per giorni. E poi quelle idee prendevano
forma nella sala prototipi. Fra nuove discussioni, perfezionamenti,
abbracci. E alla fine… applausi. Poi a Milano, per la presentazione al
Salone del Mobile. Nello stand tante luci, moltissime persone. Divani e
poltrone che avevo visto nascere. Ora erano lì. Io ero orgoglioso perché
conoscevo le loro storie. Ho avuto e ho il privilegio di conoscere e
lavorare con persone che hanno ideato prodotti straordinari.
Insieme ai collaboratori di oggi posso raccontare e far apprezzare le
caratteristiche di Edra e la sua qualità, data anche dalla capacità dei suoi
artigiani, che sono artisti.
E al riguardo per loro e per il loro lavoro.
Con una ricerca profonda e pura sul comfort e sulla bellezza, Edra
applica ancora oggi i principi di qualità più alta, superlativa, che
animano quel mondo straordinario dove volevo passare i miei
pomeriggi, dopo la scuola.

tEatro pErsio Flacco
Il Teatro Persio Flacco di Volterra ha duecentodue anni, festeggiati
il 15 agosto. Uno fra i più antichi della Toscana, il teatro è un
monumento della città: ha accolto le sue genti per festeggiare, per
divertire, per insegnare. È scritto nel libro Il teatro Persio Flacco. Un
Teatro all’italiana: “La bellezza da sola non basta, i luoghi sono davvero
belli se vissuti e vivibili sempre”. Per questo motivo l’Accademia dei
Riuniti, proprietaria deI Teatro, lavora con l’obiettivo di “aprirsi”
sempre di più, con Stagioni Teatrali ampie, con giornate per le
associazioni, con esposizioni d’arte, con incontri culturali e divulgativi:
gli “incontri in teatro”. Edra condivide e supporta questo impegno. Il
Tatlin in velluto rosso arreda il foyer d’ingresso del Teatro. Un divano
che vuole simboleggiare ospitalità, condivisione e bellezza.

pErsico Flacco thEatrE
On 15 August, the Persio Flacco Theatre in Volterra celebrated 202
years since its foundation. One of the oldest in Tuscany, the theatre is a
true civic monument. It welcomed the population to celebrate, entertain,
and teach. We read in the book The Persio Flacco Theatre. An Italian-
style Theatre: “Beauty alone is not enough; places are truly beautiful if
they are always lived and experienced.” For this reason, the Accademia
dei Riuniti - the theatre’s owner - works with the aim of “opening itself
up” more and more, with extensive theatre seasons, association days, art
exhibitions, cultural and popular meetings: “meetings at the theatre”.
Edra shares and supports this intention. Its red velvet Tatlin furnishes
the entrance foyer of the theatre. A sofa that is meant to symbolise
hospitality, sharing and beauty.
