The artistic intervention for the enhancement of the
docking of the Li Galli Island.

ono trascorsi quasi tremila anni dal quarantennale
viaggio verso casa compiuto da Ulisse, unico uomo
sopravvissuto al canto delle Sirene. Con la sua ultima
commissione Nicoletta Russo De Li Galli risveglia il mito e la
magia di questo antico arcipelago attraverso la maestria artigiana
del suo nuovo protégé: il designer greco Savvas Laz.
Savvas Laz, dopo aver conseguito un master avanzato in
Design for Luxury & Craftsmanship presso ÉCAL, è tornato
in Grecia per avviare il proprio studio creativo. Qui ha iniziato
a raccogliere gli imballaggi di polistirolo dai cassonetti vicino
alla sua casa-studio di Neos Kosmos, ad Atene. L’artista crea
forme scultoree combinando tra loro pezzi sciolti, racchiudendoli
in una finitura resistente e fluida che lega strutturalmente gli
assiemi e li infonde di nuove, infinite possibilità. Le rifiniture e i

Sirens’ song and survive them, Nicoletta Russo De Li
Galli resurrects the myth and magic of this ancient archipelago
through the craft of her newest protégé: Greek designer Savvas
Laz.
Savvas Laz graduated from ÉCAL’s advanced masters in Design
for Luxury & Craftsmanship before returning to Greece to set up
his own creative practice. Here he has been collecting discarded
styrofoam packaging from the bins next to his home-studio in
Neos Kosmos, Athens. He combines loose pieces into sculptural
forms and encases them in a hard-wearing, seamless finish that
binds the assemblages together structurally and imbues them with
endless, newfound possibility. Finishing touches and materials
like mirrors, lights, textile and upholstery also compliment the
dynamic compositions enhancing their new functionality further
still. Through Laz’s process polystyrene – the polarising, universal,
mass-produced, single-use, industrial material that is notoriously
difficult to recycle – is salvaged, reimagined and transformed
into unique, lasting, functional, even personable works of art:
Trashformers.
Nicoletta is the visionary patron of the arts discovering unique
talents across Europe and the world. From Li Galli to London, she
dreams up fantastical ventures and provides designers and artists
the freedom, space and support to bring them to life through their
work. She first encountered Trashformers just over a year ago
in Athens and immediately purchased two of the earliest pieces.
The chairs live in her home on the Greek island of Kastellorizo,
materiali come specchi, luci, tessuti e rivestimenti completano
le composizioni dinamiche esaltandone ulteriormente la nuova
funzionalità. Grazie al processo creativo di Laz, questo materiale
industriale polarizzante, universale, prodotto in serie, monouso e
notoriamente difficile da riciclare, viene recuperato, reinventato e
trasformato in opere d’arte uniche, durature, funzionali e persino
personalizzabili: Trashformer.
Nicoletta è una mecenate visionaria, che si dedica alla scoperta
di talenti unici in Europa e nel mondo. Da Li Galli a Londra,
sogna imprese fantastiche e offre a designer e artisti la libertà,
lo spazio e il sostegno di cui hanno bisogno per dar vita a questi
sogni attraverso il loro lavoro. Si è imbattuta per la prima volta
in Trashformer poco più di un anno fa ad Atene e ha subito
acquistato due dei primi pezzi. Le sedie ora sono nella sua
