It is indisputable that another intermediary dimension exists between design and art. There are products that, while having a function, are also marked by a particularly sophisticated attention to form, helped by a very astute constructive method and a choice of materials that enhances the specificities. This tendency has, however, found two expressive paths. On one hand there are designers who turn to the managers of art galleries, proposing “collectors’ items”, and on the other there are designers who, with identical quality, continue to believe that the outlet for their work must be industry. Marco Zanuso jr., with his table OYSTER, thinks in terms of “artistic design”, but has chosen the second of the two possible routes and entrusted the production of his work to Driade. As a result, objects for daily use are given sophisticated geometries that can be traced back to the facets of a diamond and are enhanced by the “precious metal” finish. These objects are capable of moving through the rooms of the house, of even being used in contract situations, perfectly carrying out their function while preserving a clear emotional and aesthetic plus for whoever wishes to discover it
