SOMMERRO HOUSE
Oslo
The result of a huge reconversion project involving
what was once the headquarters of Oslo’s electrical
company, Sommerro is much more than a hotel.
This grand building with its exposed brick facade
is a true landmark in the Norwegian capital, which,
a century after its construction, is today once again
a focal point in the urban fabric of one of the city’s
liveliest districts. This ambitious project has been
given shape by the renowned Norwegian architects
Andreas Bjercke and Georg Eliassen, who have
lent a new interpretation to the building’s eclectic
aesthetics, the result of a mix of neoclassic inspiration,
purely functionalist elements and a wealth of
fascinating Art Deco details. The Thirties have
provided the guiding spirit for the interior design
of the rooms and suites, with their fine raw materials,
sophisticated decor and surefire welcoming mood.
Frutto di una grande operazione di riconversione funzionale
di quello che un tempo era il quartier generale dell’azienda
elettrica di Oslo, Sommerro è molto più di un hotel.
Il suo imponente edificio con la facciata in matteoni a vista
è un vero e proprio punto di riferimento della capitale norvegese,
che – a un secolo dalla sua costruzione - ritrova oggi la sua
centralità nel tessuto urbano di uno dei quartieri più vivaci
della città. A dare forma a questo progetto ambizioso sono
stati gli affermati architetti norvegesi Andreas Bjercke e Georg
Eliassen, che hanno interpretato in modo nuovo l’eclettica
estetica dell’edificio, frutto della commistione tra ispirazione
neoclassica, elementi puramente funzionalisti e una miriade
di affascinanti dettagli Art Déco. Sono proprio gli Anni Trenta
ad aver guidato la progettazione dell’interior design delle
stanze e suite, tutte caratterizzate dall’impiego di materie
prime preziose, lavorazioni ricercate e un’atmosfera
immancabilmente accogliente.
