An essential element of life, water is a seamless component
characterised by purity and naturalness. This extraordinary compound has
long provided inspiration for the Boffi | De Padova Group and its creative
team. In 1999, Boffi and Piero Lissoni presented the “When Water Meets”
project on the occasion of the launch of the brand’s first bath collection.
The concept revolved around a series of floating islands where bathroom
elements were envisioned as striking standalone pieces but also products
that could live in harmony within a larger interior space.
Twenty years on, for the 2019 edition of the Salone del Mobile, water
is once again the unifying theme to propose a complex set of architectural
solutions for the home. The “When Water Meets” concept has been revisited
and presented at S. Project, a pavilion at Salone del Mobile 2019 dedicated
to offering a 360-degree overview of interior architecture together with
decorative and technical interior solutions. This project follows a precise,
architectural approach using an interplay of solids and voids marked
by pools of water to form an imaginary chessboard. Bonded together by
water, the concept emphasises the seamless nature of the interior elements
from the Boffi | De Padova Group and their ability to be rearranged in
innumerable ways to create spaces defined by an understated elegance.
From the customisable kitchens, bathrooms and wardrobe systems from
Boffi and home furnishings from De Padova to the adaptable shelving
from MA/U Studio and door systems from ADL, the “When Water Meets”
project demonstrates how these elements may be repositioned like
pieces on a board to form engaging interior spaces. On the surface, the
appearance is uniform yet underneath there are separate creative currents,
with each brand committed to creating long-lasting designs crafted
by skilled Italian artisans. The result is a sophisticated range of furniture
defined by a readily identifiable style that communicates a timeless
aesthetic. One network, one design philosophy.
