The Colchagua Valley, located just under 100 miles south of the
Chilean capital of Santiago, is the country’s preeminent agricultural
region. / El valle de Colchagua, ubicado aproximadamente a
160 kilómetros al sur de su capital, Santiago, es la zona campesina
por excelencia de Chile.
Starting at the foothills of the Andes Mountains and stretching
west to the Pacific Ocean, the Colchagua Valley has achieved worl-
dwide fame for its red wines. These are produced primarily with the
cabernet sauvignon grape variety. / Comienza en las estribaciones
de las montañas de los Andes y llega al oeste hasta el Océano
Pacífico. La fama mundial le ha llegado gracias a sus vinos tintos,
elaborados principalmente con Cabernet Sauvignon.
The landscape is similar to Napa’s, with its ubiquitous vineyards.
The river and its tree-dotted hills are in the background. Although
most of the region’s vineyards are found in the center of the valley,
new plantings extend toward the edges and westward to the sea.
El paisaje es similar al del valle de Napa, con sus omnipresentes
viñedos, el río al fondo y las colinas cubiertas de árboles. Aunque
