Lodola interprets Boccaccio and illuminates the Decameron
In 2025, for the celebrations of the 650th anniversary of Giovanni Boccaccio’s death, we are faced with a
unique opportunity: to rediscover the thought of the great 14th-century author who, together with Dante and
Petrarch, gave birth to the Italian language and literature.
Boccaccio was a pioneer, an innovator who overturned the conventions of his time through his intelligence and
powerful storytelling. The Decameron, with its surprisingly modern structure and the vitality of its characters,
remains a milestone that still speaks to us today, in our hyper-connected present.
This consideration gave rise to the idea of creating a dialogue between Boccaccio’s legacy and the visual
language of Neo-Futurism, an artistic movement whose main expressive elements are light, color, and
dynamism. With the cultural project “Lodola et Boccaccio 25”, we wanted to pay homage to him with a deeply
contemporary and visionary interpretation.
Marco Lodola, an artist with an unmistakable style and an ability to combine beauty and depth, was entrusted
with the task of giving expression to this vision: his art, made of clean shapes and vibrant colors, comes
into contact with 14th-century Tuscany for the first time, making it shine in a fascinating and unprecedented
way. The heart of the project is the exhibition in the Museum of Bocaccio’s House, in the panoramic tower of
Certaldo Alta, where ten works on canvas inspired by the novellas of the Decameron are on display. Each
canvas is a visual and conceptual journey: Lodola interprets the dynamics of love, fortune, and ingenuity, some
of the central elements in Boccaccio’s work. Alongside these, a sculpture of the writer stands in the foreground,
as if he himself were inviting visitors to enter and immerse themselves in his new guise of light and memory.
In parallel, the official logo of the celebrations, designed to accompany this visual journey throughout 2025: this
graphic sign not only identifies the project, but also becomes an integral part of it, a recognizable and narrative
symbol alongside the poster, where Giovanni Boccaccio and Marco Lodola appear in profile, immersed in a
face-to-face encounter suspended in time, in a dialogue between visual art and literature.

Srl, Mirabili Arte, and Villa Bibbiani - we have given shape to a project that is more than an exhibition: it is a
declaration of love for art, history, and the ability of culture to renew itself; an epochal transition that projects
Giovanni Boccaccio into our time with renewed vitality and an eye to the future.

Lodola interpreta Boccaccio e illumina il Decameron
Nel 2025, per le celebrazioni dei 650 anni dalla morte di Giovanni Boccaccio, ci troviamo di fronte a un’occasione
unica: riscoprire il pensiero del grande autore del Trecento che, insieme a Dante e Petrarca, ha dato vita alla
lingua e alla letteratura italiana.
Boccaccio è stato un precursore, un innovatore che ha scardinato le convenzioni del suo tempo con l’intelligenza
e la potenza della narrazione. Il Decameron, con la sua struttura sorprendentemente moderna e la vitalità dei
suoi personaggi, rimane una pietra miliare che ci parla ancora oggi, nel nostro presente iperconnesso.
Da questa riflessione è nata l’idea di far dialogare l’eredità di Boccaccio con il linguaggio visivo del Nuovo
Futurismo, movimento artistico che ha nella luce, nel colore e nel dinamismo i suoi principali elementi espressivi
e con il progetto culturale “Lodola et Boccaccio 25” abbiamo voluto rendergli omaggio con una interpretazione
profondamente contemporanea e visionaria.
A Marco Lodola, artista dalla cifra stilistica inconfondibile e dalla capacità di coniugare bellezza e profondità, è
stato affidato il compito di dare espressione a questa visione: la sua arte, fatta di forme pulite e colori vibranti,
entra in contatto per la prima volta con il Trecento toscano, facendolo risplendere in modo affascinante e
inedito. Il cuore del progetto è la mostra a Casa Boccaccio, nella Torre panoramica di Certaldo Alta, dove sono
esposte dieci opere su tela ispirate alle novelle del Decameron. Ogni tela è un viaggio visivo e concettuale:
Lodola interpreta le dinamiche dell’amore, della fortuna, dell’ingegno, alcuni degli elementi centrali nell’opera
di Boccaccio. Accanto a queste, una scultura dell’autore in primo piano, come se fosse lui stesso a invitare i
visitatori a entrare e a immergersi nella sua nuova veste di luce e memoria.
In parallelo anche il logo ufficiale delle celebrazioni, pensato per accompagnare questo viaggio visivo durante
tutto il 2025. Un segno grafico che non solo identifica il progetto, ma ne diventa parte integrante, simbolo
riconoscibile e narrativo insieme al manifesto, dove Giovanni Boccaccio e Marco Lodola appaiono di profilo,
immersi in un faccia a faccia sospeso nel tempo, in un dialogo tra arte visiva e letteratura.
Insieme all’Ente Nazionale Giovanni Boccaccio, che ha accolto e sostenuto con entusiasmo questa
interpretazione, e agli sponsor che l’hanno resa possibile, Banca Cambiano 1884 S.p.A, Formitalia Group
Srl, Mirabili Arte e Villa Bibbiani, abbiamo dato forma a un progetto che è più di un percorso espositivo: è una
dichiarazione d’amore all’arte, alla storia e alla capacità della cultura di rinnovarsi, un passaggio epocale, che
proietta Giovanni Boccaccio nel nostro tempo con rinnovata vitalità e con lo sguardo rivolto al futuro.
