Se il presente non ci piace e ci inquieta; se il futuro
addirittura ci angoscia; se davanti a noi vediamo solo
incertezze e dubbi, meglio girare le spalle e scoprire
nel passato un comodo e rassicurante rifugio.
Il cinema l’ha capito benissimo e ci ha marciato alla
grande. In “Ritorno al futuro” (Robert Zemeckis,
1985) il giovane protagonista che sta vivendo
consapevolmente la storia d’amore dei propri genitori
negli anni ’50, è incredulo nello scoprire che trent’anni
dopo l’attore Ronald Reagan diventerà presidente degli
Stati Uniti; alla notizia risponderà con una folgorante
battuta: perché, allora, non Jerry Lewis da vice, Marilyn
Monroe first-lady e John Wayne ministro della guerra?
Nel meno nobile cinepanettone dell’italico Natale 1996,
“A spasso nel tempo” (Carlo Vanzina), il duo Boldi – De
Sica si trova proiettato per errore in diverse epoche
della storia, dall’era primitiva ai magici anni ’60 a
Capri. Tra i diversi errori dei malcapitati, c’è quello di
scambiare la divisa dei soldati americani nella seconda
guerra mondiale con le camicie dei militanti leghisti.

If you don’t like the present and it troubles you, if the
future makes you anxious and only uncertainty and
doubts lie ahead, then it is best to turn around and
search for a comfortable and reassuring refuge in the
past. Cinema understands this situation well and has
made the most of it.
In the film “Return to the Future” (Robert Zemeckis,
1985) the young main character who is knowingly re-
living his own parents love story set in the 1950’s, is
incredulous when he discovers that thirty years later
the actor Ronald Reagan will become President of the
United State. His famous line on hearing the news
is “So why isn’t Jerry Lewis vice-president, Marilyn
Monroe first lady and John Wayne War Minister?”
In the Italian Christmas Comedy movie of 1996 - “A
Spasso nel Tempo”- (Carlo Vanzina), the Boldi-De
Sica duo find themselves sent back into various time
periods in history – from the stone-age to the magical
1960’s set on the island of Capri.
Among the various troubles of characters, they mix
up the uniforms of 2nd World War American solders
with the shirts of an Italian political group called the
Northern League.
