Surface Design Show is set to return to the prestigious London’s Business
Design Centre from 6-8 February 2018. At the event, the newest and best
surfaces that the design industry has to offer are showcased.
Connecting innovative and exciting materials with an audience
of architects, specifiers and designers, Surface Design Show is the
sole event in the UK to focus exclusively on interior and exterior
surfaces. Surface Design Show has, for over a decade, been a ref-
erence where industry professionals can immerse themselves in
the latest materials for the built environment, have new insights
about the sector, and establish contact with like-minded design-
ers, architects and suppliers. Surface Design Show 2018 will once
again have a packed programme of events all designed to inspire
and engage visitors and experts alike in a unique design experi-
ence. Some of the highlights will be the Opening Night Live De-
bate and the ever popular Pechakucha Evening, where architects
and interior designers have the chance to present 20 images, each
for 20 seconds, creating an informal, inspirational and amusing
environment. Debuting in 2016, Surface Spotlight Live is an ex-
citing opportunity for architects and designers to see the very
best of advanced materials in two highlighted industry sectors.
This year, the focus will be on Residential and Transport.
The renowned trend and colour expert, Sally Angharad will cu-
rate the area, displaying the best materials that make significant
contributions in both areas. On a different note, Stone Gallery,
which debuted this year, reflects the rapidly growing stone mar-
ket in the UK and how important the relationship between stone
and surface design really is.
The Gallery is officially supported by Stone Federation GB, and
the first exhibition attracted exhibitors from Europe and over-
seas, all the intent of connecting with global architects and de-
sign that make London the world’s pivotal design hub. Light is
a vital partner to surface design, in a way that it dramatically
changes the interior and exterior of surfaces. Now in its fifth
year, Light School, presented by Light Collective and reinforced
by the Institution of Lighting Professionals, will help attendees
discover the best of new lighting design and learn about the im-
portance of combining surface and light.
Lastly and on the third day of the show, the Surface Design
Awards will occur. The awards recognise and celebrate outstand-
ing examples of progressive design and the use of innovative sur-
faces in projects both in the United Kingdom and internation-
ally. It is divided into thirteen awards across thirteen categories
focuses on exterior and interior. Each project is judged on a range
of criteria, such as the type of surface, the use of the materials
and the aesthetic design.
