Considered by many the best restaurant of the year in 2017,
Odette is much more than a name, it is a tribute to a very special
grandmother. The Design company Universal Design Studio
located in London, UK worked together with their clients The Lo
& Behold Group to create a modern and contemporary hospitality
project: The Odette Restaurant.
“The use of natural light and a bright
palette offers a welcome departure
from more traditional fine dining
restaurants where darker, heavier
tones are often found.”
Situated in the newly refurbished Singapore National Art Gallery
(home to the Nation's art collection), this magnificent Restaurant
was designed as an art piece in itself, an extension of the collection
housed in the historic building.
When we asked Lee Ying Ying the Executive for Marketing and
Communications for The Lo & Behold Group about the inspiration
for this restaurant, he said:
“ Odette is award-winning Chef-Owner Julien Royer’s first
restaurant, located at the iconic National Gallery Singapore. It
is a tribute to his grandmother Odette, who taught him how
some of the most remarkable dishes can come from the simplest
ingredients. This ethos has directed every aspect of the Odette
brand – focusing on the fundamentals and applying the utmost
care to every detail.”
About the concept he also told us :
"The design of the restaurant reflects Chef Julien's approach of
keeping the integrity of ingredients and their pure flavours with a
soft colour palette and décor that is comfortably elegant, all while
respecting the historic and iconic National Gallery location.”
The celebration of craft is demonstrated through the use of natural,
raw elements presented in a soft colour palette of natural timber,
pink terrazzo marble, with nickel and brass accents. The use of
natural light and a bright palette offers a welcome departure from
more traditional fine dining restaurants where darker, heavier tones
are often found. Universal Design Studio sought to achieve these
refreshing objectives all while respecting the historic and iconic
location within the National Gallery – a Colonial Era, Classical
building, formerly the Supreme Court House of Singapore.
