The major port city of north-western Italy is situated in the
centre of the Ligurian coast and sheltered by a mountain range,
it is a secure harbour. The name Genoa means “knee”, or in
otherwise “angle” in Ligurian and it refers to its geographical
position. There are traces of a powerful ancient maritime city
that you can easily notice as you walk through the best places
of Genoa, Piazza de Ferrari, Strada Nuova o Via Garibaldi (World
Heritage), St. Lawrence Cathedral, Museum of Oriental Arts (the
biggest in Europe), among others. If you travel to Genoa, you
must visit its famous Aquarium, situated in the Old Harbour,
now transformed into a shopping centre. You must visit also “La
Laterna”, the oldest lighthouse in the World.
