Imagine this: The Place de la comédie in the heart of Bordeaux,
an 18th century former stately home now converted to “France’s
leading hotel 2018” - InterContinental Bordeaux - Le Grand Hotel
- decorated by one of the French leading Interior Designers – Jacques
Garcia – and a Michelin-starred restaurant led by one of the world’s
most successful chefs – Gordon Ramsay.
The perfect setting is now created. CovetED Magazine experienced
a superb dinner at Le Pressoir D’Argent and we were our reader’s
eyes in a luxury experience that we are now sharing.
First, the History of the building: originally from 1789, this historical
monument first became a hotel back in 1904. Its Neo-Classical
facade, complete with stylish Corinthian collonades, faces the
magnificent Grand-Théâtre de Bordeaux, built ten years earlier by
the same architect. These two buildings with their interrelated
destinies - beloved by the people of Bordeaux for generations - form
a unique and intrinsic architectural ensemble.
Then, came the unique creative minds who brought this venue to
the 21st century through their exquisite talent: Jacques Garcia and
Gordon Ramsay.
Following a long period of closure, the Grand Hotel has experienced
a renaissance since 2007, after a very definite metamorphosis that
lasted eight years. The interiors were recreated by one of best interior
designers in the world, Jacques Garcia, who chose an elegant, Baroque
opulence that perfectly enhances the Neoclassicism of the building:
Bronze footed furniture and wall brackets, studded Napoleon III
armchairs covered with velvet upholstery and trimmings, lush
watered silk drapes, thick carpets in dark red designs, subdued
lighting from pleated lampshades, red and grey marble: all created
an impressive and serene atmosphere. Gordon Ramsay needs no
introduction. He is one of the most famous chefs in the world,
of course, for his television show “Kitchen Nightmares “, and has
worked with and perfected his talent with prestigious master chefs
