FORTALEZA DO GUINCHO
CASCAIS, PORTUGAL
Opened in 1998, the renowned Restaurant Fortaleza do Guincho
offers a fine dining restaurant concept with Portuguese and French
influences. CovetED had the fortunate thrill of visiting this luxury
hospitality venue, located in one of the most stunning areas of
Cascais where guests will have the chance to fully experience the
history and culture of the region. The internationally acclaimed
Chef Antoine Westermann came to introduce haute cuisine to the
restaurant and, since then, the restaurant has rapidly become a top
destination in Portugal.
In 2001, the restaurant received a Michelin star. Over the years,
some of the modern references in Portuguese cuisine passed on
to the Fortaleza do Guincho, causing the restaurant to acquire
the status of a ‘school’. Originally with a classic French base,
Portuguese products and traditions have been gaining more and
more prominence in the Fortaleza do Guincho.
The concept of the restaurant is intimately linked to the inspiration
that comes from the Sea or this wouldn’t be a restaurant with
a privileged view of Praia do Guincho. In the restaurant, guests
can experience the best fish and seafood from the Portuguese
coast. Each dish encompasses a wide variety of local and national
products that have the highest quality possible that will take on
a unique journey of flavours. Fortaleza do Guincho won its first
Michelin star in 2001 and is now managed by the Executive Chef
Gil Fernandes.
To eat here is a dining experience you’ll never forget: with all the
luminosity since it is wrapped in glasses that allow the light to
enter from every angle. From the service of excellence provided
by the staff to the extraordinarily divine menu and wine, the
Fortaleza do Guincho is a place with an unmatched gastronomic
allure for all of those who visit the centre of Portugal.
