EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW
WITH FEDERICA BIASI
ast January, we had a blast at Maison et Objet. We had the
chance to see fantastic stands, representing the best brands
out there, to go to the best conferences and to meet incredibly
interesting and talented people, one of which was Federica Biasi,
a Rising Talent Awardee. Federica was kind enough to share some
thoughts with us after the Rising Talents Conference and later
conceded us an exclusive interview, sharing her thoughts on ev-
erything, from her nomination to what drives her in the design
world. But first, some background for context. Federica Biasi, born
in 1989, graduated with honours from the European Institute
of Design in 2011. From 2011 to 2013, she worked with sever-
al design agencies based in Milan. Then, in 2014, she moved to
Amsterdam to observe and understand the Nordic design concept
and the emerging trends, focusing on the aesthetic beauty and the
formal simplicity which has inspired her personal style. Recently,
she became the art director of the Italian company Mingardo and,
at the same time, she collaborates as a creative consultant with
well-known design companies such as Fratelli Guzzini, focusing
on worldwide trends research and forecasting - colours, materials
& finishings - carefully analyzing the know-how of each company
she’s collaborating with.
CovetED Magazine: What did it mean to you to be featured in
the Rising Talents Awards?
Federica Biasi: It was a pleasure, of course! The world is full
of talented designers, especially in Italy, so for me, it has been an
honour to be chosen amongst 6.
CM: Was it your first time at Maison et Objet? What was it like
to have your own stand?
FB: I’ve been there twice before, but I think this year has been
better than the past years. I had a little space to show my products!
It was a success and it was very interesting to understand the
people’s opinion too!
CM: What was the first thing you thought when you knew you’d
be a Rising Talent Awardee?
FB: I thought “Really?”. It was a big surprise, I was astonished!
CM: What’s your relationship with Andrea Branzi [Federica’s
designator] like? Does he comment on your work or help in any
way?
FB: I’ve never met Andrea Branzi before. I discovered from Maison
et Objet that he nominated me. I really appreciate him as master of
design, the way he thinks is an example for me.
CM: What was it like for you to leave Milan and go to Amsterdam?
What were your expectations?
FB: I didn’t have any expectations, but when I arrived there, I felt
the beauty of the city and the peace of the canals. I loved living in
Amsterdam. I worked as a freelancer when I was there, so I had a
lot of free time to see the city and to live the Dutch way.
