I like to think of the essence of evolution as the capacity to capture
the best of what has been and let it evolve into the heart of what is
to come. Thus, Astep continues on the path devised by two great
entrepreneurs. Like all good Italian tales, mine is also a family affair
and draws from father to son.
In 1939, Gino Sarfatti, my grandfather, took the first step by found-
ing Arteluce, a company that pioneered the use of design in the
lighting business. In 1978 my father Riccardo went a step further.
Together with my mother Sandra Severi and architect Paulo Rizzatto
he created Luceplan, a company that tied together design and
technological research. This two-folds innovative and evolutionary
legacy, together with an acute attention to sustain ability, is what
defines Astep. A company that looks into the future by reworking
the meaning of history.
Astep is an international company. Based in Denmark, it has its
roots and manufacturing capabilities in Italy. Merging the past and
the future we revisit the most ground-breaking designs by Italian
Masters and introduce new technologies into original ideas.
Because what made good design in the past is what continues to
inspire us every day.
