This wallcovering reinterprets a classic animalier motif, featuring
crocodile scales, in a modern way and evoking exotic places. The
pattern, typical of fashion and luxurious leather goods, becomes
the starting point for the rich linen background. The name is a
tribute to Amahl and the Night Visitors (1951) by the Italian
composer Gian Carlo Menotti, which shares with this wallcovering
the union of tradition and innovation: in fact, this opera – the first
ever conceived for television – presents a plot that changes the
usual point of view on the journey of the Magi in the Holy Land.

A refined design inspired by pleated fabrics enriches the linen
base of this wallcovering. The motif recalls the texture of Giorgio
Armani fashion creations, adding dynamism and depth to the tone-
on- tone palettes presented in different neutral hues. The name is
a tribute to Carmen (1875) by George Bizet and the sumptuous
decorated dress of Spanish toreadores walking the stage of this
famous opera.

For the making of this wallcovering – dedicated to Loreley (1890),
opera by Alfredo Catalani – the choice was to use the ancient
technique of fil posé, made even richer by the use of silk threads,
which is rare for this production process. The color palette
alternates vivid and pastel tones, neutral gradients and fluid shades
inspired by the plot of the opera itself, whose protagonist is a girl
turned into a fairy after the wedding to the Rhine river: spells and
watery reflections define an oniric atmosphere, celebrated by this
wallcovering where the design comes from the reinterpretation of
an ikat effect in macro-scale.
