The first seats in history were made of stone and the first chairs were made of
wood. It could not be otherwise. They were made by the ancient Egyptians in no less
than 2300 BCE, using carpentry techniques that hardly varied until the Middle Ages.
After the history of the chair had evolved over time each time new production
technologies appeared.
The only thing that has not changed since then is the use of wood to make them,
which is for us the most ecological and natural material that exists, also the most
generous. It can give us heat if we are cold and makes it possible for us to publish
a catalog like this, whose paper comes from the pulp of its cellulose.
Our company was born 65 years ago thanks to trees and we have always shown
them respect and thanks, using only sustainable wood from reforested forests
and taking care of it throughout the chain-of-custody. Controlled logging, the arrival
of the logs at the sawmill and the planks that are sent to the factories to transform
them into components. From the tree to the final product. We have been the first
in the world with a complete 100% FSC® offering and we are proud of it,
because it shows that you can live in balance with the environment.
We have set out to continue leading our sector in sustainability and in 2030 all the
products in the Andreu World catalog will be in the closed loop economy. To achieve
this, we have increased the investment effort in R+D+i, developing our own materials
and fabrics that are already available in the new products.
They are a series of ECO thermopolymers that can be up to 100% recycled and 100%
recyclable, to guarantee the circularity of the material from its origin to the end of its
useful life. We have named them PURE ECO® and they are obtained from industrial
recycling. It is an important first step towards a more responsible and sustainable use
of raw materials, because thermopolymers still have a fossil fuel origin.
We have gone a step further with the development of a thermopolymer of natural origin,
with a biological base, produced by living microorganisms, which offers an ecological
profile similar to wood, because it has the ability to biodegrade. Perfect for durable
applications that demand absolute sustainability. It is a global technological innovation
and we present it with the Nuez Lounge BIO® designed by Patricia Urquiola.
The new lounge chair also incorporates the fabric we have produced from thread
made from plastics from PET bottles and textile waste. It is also recycled and 100%
recyclable. It has the quality and durability that intensive use in upholstery requires.
