The meeting with the Pio Manzù Foundation in 2011 led Alias to edit a historic project by the brilliant
protagonist of Italian car design in the 1960s. The focus is on the prototype of a seat that clearly derives from
the automotive field. The exciting work of research and reconstruction, guided by a profound design affinity
between Alias and the vision of Pio Manzù, culminates in the creation of the MANZÙ lounge armchair - a seat
inspired by the automotive world, with a compact polyurethane foam moulded shell and a cast aluminium base
- and a matching footstool.
L'incontro con la Fondazione Pio Manzù porta Alias ad editare nel 2011 uno storico progetto del geniale
protagonista del car design italiano degli anni ’60. L’attenzione si focalizza sul prototipo di una seduta di
chiara derivazione automobilistica. L’appassionante lavoro di ricerca e ricostruzione, guidato da una profonda
affinità progettuale tra Alias e la visione di Pio Manzù, culmina nella realizzazione di MANZÙ lounge, poltrona
composta da una scocca portante in poliuretano compatto costampato con poliuretano espanso e base in
fusione di alluminio, e di un poggiapiedi coordinato.
