Il Sereno Como, Italy
IT L’architettura del luxury hotel Il Sereno, affacciato sul
Lago di Como, spicca per il suo netto contrasto con lo stile
elaborato delle ville rinascimentali e dei giardini barocchi
che si specchiano sul lungolago. L’estetica minimalista del
resort a cinque stelle, progettato dall’architetto Patricia
Urquiola e inaugurato nel 2017, prende ispirazione dagli
edifici razionalisti di inizio ’900 della vicina città di Como.
Facciata in vetro, linee essenziali e colori neutri definiscono
lo stile di un hotel dove è possibile concedersi la vacanza
italiana per eccellenza.
Il 2019 ha segnato un importante ampliamento con
le nuove suite penthouse, sempre progettate da Urquiola,
che offrono una vista spettacolare sul lago. “Il Sereno è
caratterizzato da un linguaggio architettonico molto preciso;
ora la sfida era realizzare qualcosa di completamente nuovo
e al tempo stesso coerente con il progetto complessivo”,
racconta Luis Contreras, proprietario dell’hotel. “Per le suite
penthouse Urquiola ha attinto a diversi spunti e ispirazioni:
la Dolce Vita italiana degli anni ’50 e ’60, la tradizione
della seta di Como, i lavori dell’architetto Carlo Scarpa e i
meravigliosi oggetti disegnati nell’Italia del dopoguerra da
Gio Ponti, Franco Albini e Vico Magistretti”.
Nel progetto delle penthouse suite Patricia Urquiola
ha anche ripreso il design della vasca da bagno Lariana
ideata insieme a Agape per l’hotel nel 2015. Lariana,
che nel nome rende omaggio al Lago di Como chiamato
anticamente ‘Larius’, si caratterizza per l’armoniosa
contrapposizione fra linee fluide e geometriche e ricorda il
segno delle vasche da bagno progettate dai grandi maestri
milanesi del primo ’900.
EN Set on the banks of Italy’s Lake Como, the luxury hotel Il
Sereno sits in stark contrast to the elaborate Renaissance
villas and baroque gardens that line the idyllic waterfront.
Designed by Spanish-born, Milan-based architect
Patricia Urquiola and opened in 2017, the hotel’s minimal
aesthetic was inspired by the early 20th-century Rationalist
architecture that populates the nearby town of Como.
Defined by its glass facade, clean lines and neutral colour
palette, the five-star resort is the ultimate Italian getaway.
In 2019, the revered property unveiled its latest
addition, the Urquiola-designed penthouse suites, which
offer unrivalled panoramic views over the majestic lake.
“When we built Il Sereno, we created a well-defined
designed language, the challenge now was to do something
completely new, using the language of the hotel,” says
owner Luis Contreras. “Urquiola’s inspiration for the
penthouse was the Italian ‘Dolce Vita’ of the 1950s and ’60s,
Como’s silk traditions, the works of Architect Carlo Scarpa,
and the fabulous objects of post-war Italian designers like
Gio Ponti, Franco Albini, and Vico Magistretti.
Urquiola also called on the bathroom fixtures she
designed in collaboration with Agape for the hotel in 2015,
like the Lariana bathtub, named in homage to Lake Como,
which in ancient times was known as ‘Larius’. Characterised
by the juxtaposition between its delicate curves and the
clean cut of the double casing, the Lariana recalls the early
twentieth-century tubs used by the great Milanese masters.
