Hotel Monograph Freedom Square Tbilisi, Georgia
EN The charming historic center of Tbilisi, Georgia teems
with ancient churches and stunning neoclassical architecture
sprinkled along its winding cobbled streets. It’s the perfect
location to spend a relaxed city break for those who crave
a dose of history and culture. But not everything in the
Georgian capital is stuck in the past. The Hotel Monograph
in the city’s central Freedom Square is a modern hotel that
enthusiastically embraces contemporary design.
“Our goal was to create a lavish environment based
on a conceptual design, which was achieved through a
harmonious mixing of texture, colors, materials, and existing
space”, explains the architects from the Georgian firm
Proact. Housed in a landmark building originally constructed
in the 19th century, Proact based the design concept on
stories, sketches and books about Georgia by famous
travelers dating back to the 12th century such as Alexandre
Dumas, John Steinbeck and Pietro Della Valle, which were
incorporated throughout the public spaces.
In the rooms, however, tranquility was the main
priority. Cool grey walls and floors are offset by square
black bed frames and playful accent furniture in shades
of turmeric yellow or cherry red, colors which have been
carried through to the bathrooms in the form of bright
accent walls. Here the designers have opted for one of
Agape’s more contemporary feeling products, the sculptural
Ottocento tub, which elevates the space from a simple suite
to a luxury retreat.
