FOOD UNDER THE SPOTLIGHTS
Colour tones, colour rendering, levels of luminance and
efficiency of light sources: all these parameters,
combined with the most specific features of luminaire
reflectors, play a key role in enhancing food products of
various origins displayed in the counters of shops and
supermarkets. The perception of freshness and
palatability of the displayed goods is strongly influenced
by the effects of appropriate or inappropriate lighting.
Scientific studies on the issue show how the colours of
meat and fresh cold cuts are enhanced by using light
with low colour temperatures (warm reddish light),
while fish requires a higher colour temperature (cold
light). The proper lighting contributes to creating a
perfect environment in sales outlets, prompting the
customers to buy, particularly in the case of fresh
products. Appropriate lighting communicates, positively
and engagingly, the quality of the food on sale, its
appearance and its natural colour, as well as the value of
the service offered.
Among the light sources on the market, discharge
lamps are one of the most popular choices.
This is why Quattrobi develop specific series of
luminaires for the food industry, such as the recessed
luminaires of the Scarica series, the Cloud, P04, P06,
and Indy projectors and the Minni and Sail high-bay
luminaires. All these luminaires are equipped with 70
watt discharge lamps, electrical ballasts and front
louver. Based upon the type of luminaire used, the
green of the fresh vegetables will appear brighter, the
red, orange and yellow colours of the fruit will be
enhanced, the freshness of the meat will be
accentuated, intensifying the redness of the cuts. The
cold white light will enhance the freshness of the fish,
the soft, warm, and yellow light the tones and
consistency of the cheeses. The golden colour of the
bread and pastry products, including those freshly
baked, will be accentuated with a simple touch of light.
